James Akazili (PhD, MA, BA) Advisor
Dr. Akazili is an Advisory Board Member of ASOLI. He is a trained Health Economist with over 25 years of research experience. He holds both a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and
Master’s degree in Health Economics from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Prior to that, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Economics and a diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.
Dr. Akazili started his research career in 1989 as a Fieldworker (data collector) with the first project (Vitamin A supplementation Trial) of the Navrongo Health Research Centre in northern Ghana. He then rose through the ranks to become an accomplished prominent Health Systems Researcher in Ghana. He has extensive experience in designing and implementing community-based survey research projects and has won several research grants
including the WHO/TDR training grant, the Rockefeller Foundation, ADDRF, Ghana-Dutch, among others, which he successfully executed.
He is currently a Deputy Director at the Research and Development Division of the Ghana Health Service where is superintends over the Department of Research Ethics.
Dr. James is a member of the International Health Economics Association (iHEA), the Africa Health Economics Association (AfHEA), Health Economics and Policy Network (HEPNET)
and the Ghana Health Economics and Policy Association (GHEPA). He has over forty publications in peer review journals to his credit.
